I wasn’t lying when I said the hard bit was yet to come

I had to go in today for photos so they could build some 3D models of my jaw for surgery. Super cool.

The photo guy was really nice. Though he confirmed a few of my worries to be true.

The surgery recovery will be huge. Really huge.

It will be at least a year before I have any teeth. Just a nice gummy gap in the meantime. Talking will be difficult. Living will be difficult.

What do you do with that information?

I went and got coffee. Seemed a good place to start…

Hi Jen, see my comment on your blog. I wait anxiously as you do for the outcome of your checkup on 23rd. Good luck with that. I Will call you before I travel toSYD/CNB. I am hoping that my own hip op will take place this summer. Take good care, and Courage, as they say in France. Love.

Hi Jen. I had a major op last April for head and neck cancer. I had my upper jaw left reconstructed from my left shoulder.
I lost half my upper teeth left side.
My tastebuds are all over the place and I have the sweet tooth from hell.
Some things I used to love eating I now hate and I have to eat a soft food diet, but itโ€™s better than the feeding tube I had!
I did have a plate made for me before Xmas so I had my front teeth until my implants, but I hate wearing it.
    I talk funny with it.
I talk funny without it and there are some words that I really struggle with pronouncing, sometimes to frustration but mostly to fits of laughter, so think positive!!

    Iโ€™m still without teeth.

Hopefully implants will be done very soon but itโ€™s fine. You learn to cope.

    Think positive hun xx

I thought of you when I wrote this! I know you had slightly prepared me for this eventuality but I was in hope that I would be different! But no.

You’re right. It will be ok. It’s just that after 6 months of being useless and tapped out of my usual life because of chemo, it feels like a big blow to now have to face at least another year until I might be getting some semblance of normal life back.

Omg feeding tube… I’d rather go hungry! Argh I can’t wait for it to be over.

You’re doing so well. You’re an inspiration to me. Thank you. Hard road ahead but I guess it will end eventually! xx

Lol I remember being nil by mouth for 8-9 weeks. Then it was only liquids like water and weak tea, nothing else! If you want to ask me any questions please do get in touch on campbellmac44@gmail.com. Ali x

I think a Coffee was a good idea, Jen.

Lot’s to take in but you are a winner. You will succeed with this even if it takes a little time and has it’s ups and downs.

    Of this I’m sure.
